The health of our country is in mourning for the case of a doctor who was murdered inside his own workplace. This is a sad situation that is a reflection of the violent panorama that occurs throughout Mexico. At the same time, it is a crime that remains unpunished because up to now the aggressor has not been captured.
First of all, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), From January to December 2022, 32,223 homicides were registered in Mexico. With this, a rate of 25 per 100,000 inhabitants nationwide is obtained. The rate is lower than that registered for the same period of 2021, which was 28.
Homicides are part of the accidental and violent deaths. Their classification is determined based on the causes (conditions and injuries), the type of death and the reason for the injury recorded by the certifying physician on the death certificate. Based on the report, the attack occurred during the morning and in broad daylight. The attacker arrived at the hospital and pretended that he was a patient and required medical attention. Without problems he was able to enter the doctor’s office. At the moment of being in front of him he took out a firearm and activated it several times until causing the immediate death of the doctor.
He immediately fled the scene, so none of the other healthcare workers and patients on the scene could identify him. While to date the identity of the attacker or the reason why he committed the crime is unknown.
More cases of violence against health professionals
For its part, this case adds to another also occurred this week but in Chiapas. The nurse identified as Yasmín “N” was traveling in her vehicle when she was intercepted by another car with several people inside.
According to the report, the criminals fired firearms of various calibers at the nurse. After the attack they fled and so far the identity of all the attackers is unknown.
Because no valuables were taken, it has been ruled out that it was an attempted robbery. While now it is suspected that it was a case of femicide, although the case has not yet been reclassified.
