Beer is one of the most popular drinks among Brazilians, especially in the summer. In fact, it is during this period that many people end up overdosing, and this can have some consequences. After all, excess alcohol causes dehydration in the body, and the more the individual consumes it, the more it ends up accelerating this process.

When a person drinks large quantities of this drink, it is normal for them to feel more like going to the bathroom, as we are talking about an extremely diuretic product. Therefore, ideally, those who want to drink a little more should also consume water to counterbalance the effects of dehydration.

“Alcohol consumption, including beer or beer, on hot days can have negative effects on the body due to its diuretic effect, which means it increases urine production. This can lead to additional fluid and electrolyte loss, contributing to dehydration. If the intention is to keep the body hydrated on hot days, it is essential to balance alcohol consumption (in a very moderate way) with water intake to help compensate for the loss of fluids caused by alcoholic beverages and maintain water balance”, warns neurosurgeon Felipe Mendes, member of the Brazilian Society of Neurosurgery.

Is beer more harmful in hot weather?

In addition to the issue of dehydration, alcoholic beverages in general also tend to cause other effects on the body, especially in the warmer seasons. Therefore, you need to remain vigilant so as not to end up harming yourself.

“Alcohol also interferes with the body’s ability to regulate temperature and this is critical in conditions of extreme heat, where the body’s ability to dissipate heat is essential to avoid hyperthermia”, says the expert.

Health professionals also point out that heat slows down human reasoning, which can be further aggravated by high beer consumption. Therefore, activities that require precision and good coordination should be avoided by those who tend to go above and beyond in this regard.

“Alcoholic drinks increase the dilation of blood vessels and can also affect the central nervous system, compromising cognitive function and motor functionality. The combination with the additional stress caused by the heat can result in a greater feeling of fatigue and mental sluggishness”, explains the doctor.
