Daniel Sonnewend Proença was shot three times, but survived

Doctor Daniel Sonnewend Proença, 32, underwent surgery on his legs this Thursday (5) after surviving a terrible shooting attack that occurred at a kiosk in Barra da Tijuca, in Rio de Janeiro. He was the only survivor among his professional colleagues.

Lourenço Jorge Hospital, where Daniel was admitted, reported that his health condition is stable. Late yesterday afternoon, the doctor was transferred to a private hospital, where he continues to receive medical treatment.

Daniel Sonnewend Proença has graduated from Faculdade de Marília since 2016 and is a specialist in orthopedic surgery, demonstrating excellence in his career in the health sector.

The event occurred in the early hours of this Thursday, when Daniel was accompanied by his fellow doctors: Marcos de Andrade Corsato, Perseu Ribeiro Almeida and Diego Ralf de Souza Bomfim, brother of federal deputy Sâmia Bomfim.

The site’s security cameras recorded the moment when the four health professionals were shot by criminals. Diego, Marcos and Perseus did not survive their injuries and lost their lives during the attack.

New elements from the investigation into the attack on four doctors suggest that drug dealers were responsible for the crime.

The Civil Police obtained a recording that indicates the possibility of mistaken identity involving one of the doctors, Perseu Ribeiro Almeida, and the militiaman Taillon de Alcântara Pereira Barbosa.

The investigation indicates that the attack may be related to a territorial dispute between militiamen and drug traffickers in the region. According to information obtained from the intercepted recording, a man mentions the location “Posto 2”.

The voice is believed to belong to Juan Breno Malta, known as BMW, an ally of Philip Motta, also known as Lesk.

Lesk, who was originally a militia member in Gardênia Azul, reportedly changed his allegiance to Comando Vermelho after control of the region passed to drug trafficking.

It is suspected that BMW received information about Taillon’s presence at the Naná Kiosk, and his attempt was to indicate the exact location to his partner.

However, the Naná Kiosk is located between stations 3 and 4, close to the Windsor Hotel, where the doctors were staying for an international orthopedics congress. This raises suspicions that the real target could be Taillon and not the doctors.

Other signs point to the possible authorship of the attack by drug traffickers from Comando Vermelho. The vehicle used in the crime, a white Fiat Pulse, was tracked after the case and identified as having been taken to Cidade de Deus, known for serving as a base for a gang involved in the dispute against the militia.

Taillon de Alcântara Pereira Barbosa, who was reportedly mistaken for one of the doctors, had already been arrested in an operation at the end of 2020.

He is the son of Dalmir Pereira Barbosa, considered one of the main leaders of a militia active in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, involved in a conflict with the gang led by Lesk.
