The initiative to start consuming chocolate to reduce the risk of heart attack remains only a theory outside of clinical guidelines. Amina Platunova, therapist and cardiologist at the Lakhta Clinic, said this, commenting on the recommendation of the Japanese therapist Yuma Mori about the benefits of chocolate to reduce the risk of heart attack.
“Doctors adhere to medical knowledge based on clinical guidelines. Any discoveries in medicine require testing on large and different groups of patients, which is a long and expensive process – it is called a clinical trial, ”Mori explained in a conversation with RBC.
Experts predicted a rise in prices for chocolate in Russia
The expert noted that until the publication of the official research results, any discovery is just one of many theories and doctors cannot use it in their work.
Cardiac surgeon, candidate of medical sciences Alexei Fedorov told RBC, in turn, that it is impossible to speak about the unequivocal benefits of chocolate in the fight against heart attack. In his opinion, chocolate can also be a risk factor.
