Doctors – “Most of the time, the back pain is relieved and the patient returns to a normal life”

by time news

Already in the 1970s, even before the concept of “chiropractic” was heard in Israel, Dr. David Neis went to the USA to study chiropractic – a paramedical profession that is studied mainly in the USA in a university setting. After completing his degree, he applied for further studies in college, where he acquired a practice and education in related professions such as radiography. Immediately after graduation he returned to Israel and opened a clinic in Tel Aviv, which has been operating for over four decades and has treated thousands of clients.

How did you get into the field?

“My sister’s American husband who lives in the USA is a chiropractor. He told me about the profession and took care of me when I was in the army. I liked the treatment and decided to travel to study it. I was the first Israeli to go to the US to study chiropractic and among the first Israelis to treat it in the country.”

What medical problems are treated with chiropractic?

“Chiropractic treats a variety of problems. One of them is when the pelvis is unbalanced and one of the legs is longer – this is a condition that may be congenital or acquired from incorrect sitting habits or as a result of uncomfortable and unhealthy chairs like those found in schools, which can cause back damage. Other problems can be A herniated disc or a herniated disc. In these cases, the pressure created on the nerve next to the disc is released and the vertebrae are spaced to a certain extent so that they press less on the disc.”

How is chiropractic treatment performed?

“Before the treatment, we will ask for an imaging scan – CT or MRI or a normal x-ray – to check that there is no serious problem. The patient comes for the examination and after I examine his condition, I decide what treatment he will receive, how many treatments, how often, etc. Sometimes I send the patient for tests that the attending physician overlooked and sometimes there are situations where I refer the patient to another treatment, such as surgery if I come to the conclusion after the initial examination that I will not be able to give the appropriate answer.”

Dr. Nice emphasizes that “every treatment is customized. Along with the treatment, we make sure to give recommendations for exercises, correct posture and maintaining back health. One of the main problems is that patients think that after undergoing treatment they can now do whatever they want and do not understand that they need to take care of their back and exercise it correctly in order to prevent further damage. Therefore, we make sure to give them a series of instructions on how they should sit, stand and walk, in order to prevent future damage.”

At what stage is chiropractic treatment desirable?

“As soon as a problem or pain arises. The treatment is not aggressive and you can treat it gently at the beginning and work with what is possible. In most cases the pain slowly subsides, the pressure decreases and the patient returns to a normal life. In addition, I make sure to guide the patient on how to rehabilitate the back and work with him correctly on In order not to get into a situation of injury.”

Who can get chiropractic care?

“With chiropractic, you can treat from a very young age, even babies. I treat children as young as four or five years old who have fallen badly and it is possible to correct the problem with very gentle, careful and responsible treatment and without harsh and aggressive manipulations. I also have patients who are 90 plus and 100 years old. The treatment is responsible and gentle and is done with attention to the patients and adaptation to their condition also in terms of the technique used in the treatment.”

Can chiropractic treatment also be preventive treatment for back pain?

“I wouldn’t call it preventive, but maintenance. As chiropractors, we maintain the back in the optimal way. It cannot be said that the treatment is preventive because a person who has undergone treatment can lift a heavy load or act in a way that will harm his back and cause him damage. But even if something happens to him, it is likely not It will happen with a force that will disable him in a hard way, but in a way that will make it easier to overcome him.”

In recent years, news has been published about chiropractic therapists who harmed patients, because they did not receive proper training. Unfortunately, the latter gave the profession a bad name. How can people avoid falling into the wrong hands?

“There is a perception that we are aggressive, but there are patients in the clinic with osteoporosis and the fact is that to this day I have not broken a bone in any patient. The problem is that today the profession is not organized by law and there is a situation where therapists without training treat people and it becomes a dangerous profession, where patients entrust their bodies to those who do not know to work. Therefore, it is important to make sure that the chiropractor has been trained. There is no need to be ashamed and you can ask him where he studied and for how many years, and it is important that the therapist provides this information.

“In addition, there is an Israeli association for chiropractic and it is certainly possible to make contact and verify if a certain person studied and if he has training in the field. Today it is already possible to study chiropractic in several countries in the world such as England, Australia, Canada and South Africa, while the main and considered place of study is the USA, where Chiropractic was born and from there it spread to other countries.”

“Many times we prevented surgery and returned the patient to full function”

Dr. Nice recommends that anyone who suffers from back pain, spine problems, from the neck to the coccyx, get chiropractic treatment. “I have treated tens of thousands of people in the four decades that I have been active in the field,” he says. For those who must have surgery, but after chiropractic treatment they returned to normal function and did not need surgery at all.”

According to him, before proceeding with a surgical procedure, you should stop by a chiropractor. “My knowledge and experience are sufficient to give an accurate recommendation to the patient, and more than once we have proven that we do a good job and have prevented surgery. There are doctors who urge patients to undergo surgery and warn them not to seek chiropractic treatment on the grounds that it will cause them damage to the point of paralysis. This threat is not close to the truth but requires trust from the patient Happily, the mileage of experience I have accumulated has led quite a few doctors and orthopedists to recommend patients to come to me, but I would of course be happy for more cooperation between orthopedists and chiropractors.

“Chiropractic treatment is a conservative, less intrusive treatment and can solve a serious problem for quite a few patients without using knives, and it’s a shame that treatment that can help is prevented. I believe that, similar to Chinese medicine, which in the past was esoteric and today has become almost a consensus and most doctors recommend it, that this will also be the future of the field of chiropractic”.
