Doctors of Yakutia for the first time removed congenital cataracts for young patients

by time news

In the Yakutsk Republican Ophthalmological Clinical Hospital, for the first time, operations were performed on young children diagnosed with congenital cataracts, according to the official portal of the Republic of Yakutia. Ophthalmologists of the highest qualification category Ekaterina Zakharova and Ekaterina Basova performed phacoemulsification with the introduction of an artificial lens of the eye filled into the injector.

– This type of operation is performed practically without incisions and is less traumatic. Surgical intervention is carried out quickly and safely, does not require stitches, says the chief physician of the hospital Ivan Lutskan. The patients – a three-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl – were happily running along the corridor an hour after the operation.

The operation was made possible thanks to new anesthetic medical equipment purchased with funds from the regional health development program. A modern anesthesia machine allows you to accurately dose the anesthetic, which is especially important when operations are performed on children.

According to Ivan Lutskan, the Japanese colleagues donated the lenses to the Yakut doctors free of charge when they learned that the operation in Yakutia would be done for the first time, and it is socially significant and free.

This year, 27 little Yakutians with congenital cataracts were sent for operations at federal medical centers. And Yakut ophthalmologists are planning to expand the range of types of high-tech surgery.
