Case: As the era of mental asylums comes to an end in Europe, the film “Women in Waiting” efforts to shed light on the past. Through the lens of Ioanna Tsoukala, who used her time as an art therapist in the Psychiatric Hospital of Athens, we look at the “kingdom of madness”, as the creator himself says. The “Women of the Court” of the title are, on the one hand, this paradoxical family of therapists (most of whom are related to each other) that mark different generations within the asylum. On the other hand, the “Women of the Court” are also the female prisoners, disarmed and always ready to reveal themselves, to speak, to share their invisible daily life.
