The senior politician wrote on Twitter: “If my parents had not decided to escape from Iran, I would have been one of the protesters fighting in the streets and my life would have been in danger.”

More than a week has passed since the protest and according to human rights organizations at least 50 people have already been killed, most of them protestors. According to the evidence, about 3,000 were arrested. UN Secretary Antonio Guterres called on the country’s authorities to refrain from using excessive force against the protesters: “The Iranian regime is called on to respect freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate.” But on the other hand, Iranian President Raisi said that “the authorities must deal decisively with those who oppose the security and peace of the country.”
