There is a lot of research at the UMCG into the influence of intestinal flora on health
The fact that this research was carried out at the UMCG is due to the extensive knowledge that has been gained here in recent years with research into the influence of intestinal flora on health. Earlier, the same researchers showed that the microbiome plays a role in the response to skin cancer treatment.
Their research also showed that diet and dietary pattern can lead to changes in the microbiome.
In 2022 they identified the composition of healthy intestinal flora
The UMCG also has access to Pointing and OncoLifeS. These are databases in which data and bodily material of patients with cancer are stored. These can be used for cancer research. The researchers also used these biodatabanks for this study.
Also involved in this research from the UMCG were Johannes Björk, Rudolf Fehrmann, Jacco de Haan and Liesbeth de Vries. Karla Lee, Veronique Battaille and Tim Spector from Kings College London did the English part of this study.
