REPORTING. Faced with theft and dog traffic, a phenomenon on the rise, canine owners are beginning to show their fangs.

Where are these dogs? From a plastic bag, Nathalie Loïko pulls out a thick sheaf of documents which she spreads out on the table. “Alert vol”, pIndicates in capital letters a yellow and black banner surmounting the photo of each missing animal.

Leika, a 6-year-old female from Beauce, stolen in Marseille in July 2021; Koda, border collie delighted in September of the same year in a town in the Hautes-Pyrénées; Noisette, a chipped Yorkshire abducted in the Vosges last summer, while she was in the garden of the property where she lived. “Behind all these disappearances, there are family tragedies”, sighs Nathalie Loïko.

The theft of dogs can pay off big – purebred puppies are easily sold for several thousand euros to buyers who are not always careful…
