Twitter surprised its web platform users on Monday evening when they logged in and saw the classic Doge meme dog instead of the company’s usual white or light blue bird logo. Some speculate that the change is connected to the cryptocurrency Dogecoin which has significantly increased in value since the dog’s appearance on Twitter. The Doge meme originated in 2010 as a digital format featuring a Shiba dog photo, becoming increasingly popular in 2013 when words in various colors were added. In the same year, IBM engineer Billy Markus introduced Dogecoin. Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter in 2022, has introduced a series of changes that have received mixed reactions, including the option for accounts to be verified for a fee. Musk tweeted his comments on the matter with a meme.
On Monday evening, Twitter users around the world were met with a surprise when they logged into Twitter’s web platform.
Instead of Twitter’s classic logo in the form of a white or light blue bird, it was the classic meme dog Doge that adorned the page at the top left. Many tweeters speculate whether it is an allusion to the cryptocurrency Dogecoin.
At the time of writing, the value has increased significantly since the dog started appearing on Twitter. On Monday alone, its value has increased by 20 percent.

The meme, a digital joke format, was born in 2010 after a photo of a shiba dog. It became especially popular in 2013 when the photograph was adorned with words in different colors.
In 2013, the cryptocurrency Dogecoin was also introduced by IBM engineer Billy Markus.
Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022 and has since implemented a series of changes that have been met with mixed reactions. One of the changes is that you can pay to have your account verified and a number of benefits. Previously, only organizations and public figures could get verified accounts.
