Mayor Gramatica: «The goal is to achieve a balanced coexistence between humans and animals, focusing attention on safety and urban decorum»

Dogs left free that bite those they meet on the street; recently some cases that fortunately have been resolved without consequences. Owners who do not clean the “souvenirs” left by their animals; more and more complaints. And so the Municipality has signed an ordinance for the custody of dogs and prevention measures.

“Our goal is to achieve a balanced coexistence between humans and animals, focusing attention on issues related to safety, respect for the environment, health and hygiene and urban decorum – explains Mayor Federico Gramatica -. In recent times we have received several complaints about the presence of excrement, especially in public parks frequented mainly by children, as well as on sidewalks”.

And in addition to hygiene and the safety of people, “the well-being of dogs, the right of owners to have their animals with them and peaceful coexistence among citizens are fundamental,” the mayor continued. “This is why we have issued an ordinance to prevent difficult situations from being created.”

In short, dogs must be kept on a leash, a hard or soft muzzle must be carried, to be applied to the dog in case of risk to the safety of people or animals or at the request of the competent authorities, and their needs must be collected. Furthermore, it is mandatory to register the animals in the canine registry, by inserting a suitable identification microchip. Anyone who does not respect the rules risks a fine of 50 to 500 euros.
