Municipal Works Department Combats Mosquitoes to Prevent Disease Spread
The Municipal Works Department (DOM) has joined the fight against dengue, zika, and chikungunya by deploying over 700 pieces of equipment to combat the mosquitoes that transmit these diseases.
To support these efforts, the DOM has made 5,000 members of the department and 250 vehicles available, equipped with the necessary supplies to tackle these diseases.
The equipment includes spray pumps, spray packages with fuel canisters, gloves, masks, sponges for cleaning piles, abatement materials, garbage bags, rakes, brooms, and other essential items.
Every day, teams from the DOM travel throughout the country to colonies, hamlets, and cantons to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, both indoors and outdoors.
Their work includes fumigation of vacant lots, bushes, green areas, parks, scrap yards, churches, schools, clinics, commercial establishments, drains, and grey water outlets from homes.
