With Karim Adeyemi starring in the first half, scoring two goals that laid the foundation for his team’s victory, Dortmund defeated the resilient Heidenheim 4-2 in the opening match of the third round of Bundesliga, temporarily climbing to the top of the standings.
The team from Westphalia entered the game with high intensity and managed to take the lead very early, thanks to goals from Malen (12’) and Adeyemi (17’). Despite Heidenheim’s response with a stunning header from Piering at the 39′, Dortmund came back strong, with Adeyemi scoring his second personal goal, giving them a two-goal lead again before the end of the first half.
In the second half, Heidenheim did not give up, reducing the deficit again in the 74th minute with a penalty by Breuninger. Despite the intense pressure for the equalizer, the visitors could not change the course of the match. In the third minute of stoppage time, Emre Can’s successful penalty shaped the final score to 4-2, “sealing” the victory for Dortmund.
