The Dominican writer and literary researcher Manuel Mora Serrano2021 National Literature Prize winner, died in Santo Domingo at the age of 90 due to health complications, according to his family this Friday.

Mora Serrano, whose death occurred the day before, stood out as poet, narrator, essayist, literature teacher and literary researcher.

The lawyer also wrote, among other titles, “Domino Game”, “Goeíza”, “The Day God Hears the Poor”, “The Price of Fervor” and “Poetic Anthology of Domingo Moreno Jimenes”.

After learning of the death, the Minister of Culture, Milagros Germán, expressed “his deep regret”, while highlighting the “invaluable contribution to Dominican literature” of Mora Serrano.

“I receive with regret the news of the death of the writer Manuel Mora, who honored his life by making valuable contributions to the cultural development of the Dominican Republiccontributions that make him worthy of recognition and eternal memory,” said Germán in a statement.

The writer “was a giant of Dominican letters and his departure leaves a void impossible to fill in our literary culture,” highlighted the minister.

In 2021, the Ministry of Culture and the Corripio Foundation awarded him the National Literature Prize in recognition of his work in favor of national literature.

In a statement, the Dominican Academy of Arts and Entertainment Journalists (Adobe) lamented the death of Mora Serrano, of whom he highlighted “his valuable contributions to the development of culture in the Dominican Republic”, for which he was deserving “of glories and recognition.”

“His memory will last for more than one generation thanks to his extraordinary contributions to the literature“, noted the Academy.
