Washington: There has been an attempt to assassinate former US President Donald Trump. US officials have received information about Iran plotting to assassinate Trump in recent weeks. Due to this, the US Secret Service increased security around Trump. According to a CNN report, there is no indication that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the attacker who attacked Trump on Saturday, was connected to this conspiracy. Trump was attacked on Saturday even amidst the threat from an enemy country and increased security for Trump, which raises new questions about security flaws. The biggest question still remains how the attacker reached Trump. The US Secret Service protects presidents and former presidents. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating the attack on Trump. So far it has not shared the motive behind the attack. According to the report, a US national security official said that the Secret Service and the Trump campaign were made aware of the threat before Saturday’s rally.
Trump was in danger from Iran
Trump’s election campaign did not reveal whether it was aware of the Iran threat. The Trump campaign said in a statement, “We do not comment on President Trump’s security details. All questions should be directed to the United States Secret Service.” People familiar with the matter said that Secret Service officials have repeatedly warned the Trump campaign against holding an outdoor rally. According to the report, the alert about the Iranian conspiracy was received a few weeks ago and officials had increased Trump’s security accordingly.
Iran considers itself an enemy
Along with Israel, Iran also considers America as its biggest enemy. It calls it a great Satan. Trump and other Republicans have been aggressive against Iran. That is why they have been its target for a long time. Former National Security Advisor John Bolton and former Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo were also the target of the Iranian assassination plot. According to CNN, the US National Security Council (NSC) had given the intelligence information to the Secret Service.
