Donald Trump likes to portray himself as a successful businessman. Now the Republican has had to make his finances public. Among other things, he earns money from selling Bibles.

Former US President Donald Trump has dutifully disclosed his finances in the middle of the election campaign. The documents published on Thursday provide insight into the Republican candidate’s liabilities and income for the upcoming elections. The three civil suits that Trump lost in New York are particularly putting a strain on the 78-year-old’s finances. However, Trump is reportedly making profits from brand licenses and the sale of Bibles.

Trump’s new liabilities include fines imposed on him in two defamation lawsuits and another fraud case. Trump is appealing both verdicts, but has already had to pay at least part of the fines. In total, the documents list more than $100 million in liabilities to author E. Jean Carroll and the New York Attorney General.

Furthermore, according to the documents, Trump owns cryptocurrency worth more than one million US dollars. He also earned around 4.5 million dollars from the book “Letters to Trump”. Another book – “A MAGA Journey” – brought Trump a good 505,000 euros. Likewise, the sale of “The Greenwood Bible” – a Bible edition that Trump and country singer Lee Greenwood recommend – brought in around 300,000 US dollars in royalties for the ex-president.

Trump’s private club “Mar-a-Lago” in Florida also brought the Republican around 57 million US dollars. Trump thus increased the income from the resort by almost four million US dollars compared to the previous year. Recently, several Republicans held campaign events at the complex.

In the US, financial disclosure is mandatory for candidates in federal elections and for people who already hold office. Trump wants to move back into the White House in November.

In several national polls, Democrat Kamala Harris is now slightly ahead of Trump. Her campaign team announced on Thursday that, in addition to an already agreed televised debate with Trump on September 10, there would be a second debate in October. An exact date for the second debate was not initially given. Trump’s campaign team did not initially comment. A televised debate is scheduled for October 1 for vice presidential candidates Tim Walz and JD Vance.
