Former President Donald Trump had planned to celebrate from his Florida residence a Republican triumph of which he claimed in advance paternity. But he had to revise his ambitions downwards under the threat of a tropical storm… And because the results turned out to be less clear-cut than expected. On the eve of the election, he announced yet another “red wave”, on which he seemed eager to surf towards a new candidacy for the White House. Shortly before the polls closed, he confided about the approximately 300 candidates (out of 589) he personally supported: “I think if they win I should take all the credit and if they lose I shouldn’t be held accountable at all. But it will probably be quite the opposite…”
