by time news

The lawsuit alleges that the former president and his family misled banks and business partners by giving them false information about his wealth.

Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to go to the New York attorney general’s office on Thursday for a new plea in a legal battle over his company’s business practices. This is the second time in a week that the former president is called to court, but for separate cases.

It is also the second time that he has to testify for this particular fraud case.

The Republican is scheduled to meet with attorneys for the attorney general Letitia James, who sued Trump last year. His lawsuit alleges that Trump and his family cheated banks and business partners giving them false information about his net worth and the value of assets like hotels and golf courses.

The demand is not related with the criminal charges brought against Trump by the Manhattan district attorney, which last week led to his historic appearance, the first by a former president.

Trump and his lawyers have said the Democratic lawsuit against him is politically motivated and without legal basis. He and the company deny any wrongdoing. James declined to answer a question about the planned statement at a news conference on an unrelated topic that took place on Wednesday.

400 times did not reply

Trump previously met with James’ lawyers on August 10, but declined to answer all but a few procedural questions, invoking the guarantee of the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination more than 400 times.

“Anyone in my situation who doesn’t take the Fifth Amendment would be a fool, a total fool,” he said at the session, which was videotaped and later released publicly. Trump predicted that a “rogue” prosecutor would try to build a criminal case with his answers, if he gave them.

“A statement or response that is slightly off, just slightly, by accident, by mistake, like it was a beautiful sunny day, when in fact it was slightly cloudy, would be received by law enforcement on a level rarely seen in this country, because I’ve experienced it,” he said.

The lawsuit lawsuit It is scheduled for October.

It is unclear if Trump will answer any questions in his second statement, which will be held in private if it takes place as planned.
