Shots were fired during former US President Donald Trump’s campaign. The Republican was hurt a little.
According to the Secret Service, one visitor to the event was killed in the shooting and two others were seriously injured. The suspected shooter was “neutralized,” the Secret Service announced on the X messaging service. He fired several shots “from an elevated position” toward the stage where Trump had just begun to deliver a speech.
Trump is safe and is currently being investigated, Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi said.
Trump: “Hit in the ear”
Trump himself reported on his Internet platform Truth Social. A bullet hit him in the ear. The first images released after the alleged attack showed Trump being taken off the stage by his security guards. Blood was visible on one side of his face.
Trump gave an immediate farewell
The incident happened shortly after Trump’s appearance in Butler, Pennsylvania. At first the situation was extremely confusing. It was not clear whether a shot was actually fired. Trump’s bodyguards escorted him to safety after a “loud crash,” as the media reported.
Shortly after, Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung said Trump was doing well. He will undergo a medical examination.
