Gießen district (red). From October 9th to November 26th, the German War Graves Commission is once again collecting donations for the care and construction of war graves as well as for its youth and educational work.

During this period, volunteers in the municipalities ask for a contribution to financially support the association. At the same time, collection teams are still being sought.

»The Volksbund fulfills an important task by caring for war graves. It maintains the memory of the victims of the world wars and promotes cooperation and the idea of peace across national borders. This commitment is worth our support,” says District Administrator Anita Schneider.

This year she once again took over the patronage of the house and street collection in the Giessen district. In order to make house and street collections possible, the Volksbund relies on volunteers who ask for donations. Schools, clubs, fire departments or churches can help, as can individuals.

Anyone who would like to volunteer can contact the Hesse state office by phone on 069 944907-15 or by email at [email protected].

This year the campaign has the motto “War graves tell stories”.

The Volksbund uses the income primarily for school and extracurricular educational and remembrance projects.

The German War Graves Commission was founded in 1919.

He maintains and builds German war graves abroad. The association is dedicated to the dead of past world wars: since the end of the Cold War, it has found and buried almost a million dead in Eastern Europe. He finances his work largely through membership fees and donations.

By maintaining war cemeteries, the Volksbund wants to strengthen cooperation between the countries and advance international understanding.
