A number of donations have already been collected at the first collection campaign in Essen for the earthquake victims in Morocco. They will soon be brought to Morocco. But first there is a second collection date.

Associations in Essen start aid campaign for Morocco

Two Moroccan clubs here in Essen quickly launched a fundraising campaign for the earthquake victims: the Bader SV in Altenessen and the El Moahidin Mosque in the northern quarter. At the first meeting on Wednesday evening (September 13th), many people made donations. The clubs say there was a real rush. Items donated include baby food, toiletries, wheelchairs, sleeping bags and tents, blankets, walkers, first aid kits, flashlights and more. This is exactly what the people of Morocco need now, says Abdilhamid El Bouazzaoui from the El Moahidin Mosque in the northern district.

The fundraising campaign shows that there is great solidarity in the Moroccan community. But it wasn’t just people with Moroccan roots who donated. There is a lot of willingness to help throughout the city. Together we can make a difference and support those who need it most, says Rachid El Aboussi, board member of Bader SV.

Further collection planned in Essen

Anyone who would also like to donate in Essen can do so on Friday evening (September 15th) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is the second collection date at the Bader SV football club in Altenessen on Stankeitstrasse. The clubs ask that you do not donate clothing. There is no need for this and there is also a lack of storage and transport capacity. Some members of the clubs want to drive the donations to Morocco themselves soon. Monetary donations will also continue to be accepted through the Tuisa Foundation. This means relief supplies can be purchased locally – this is easier than transporting everything to remote mountain villages.
