Christian Wood Celebrates (Reuters)
A very intriguing trade was forged tonight (Wednesday through Thursday) in the NBA, with the Dallas Mavericks joining 26-year-old Crescentian Wood next season. The tall player (2.11 meters) who plays in positions 4 and 5 will be a significant reinforcement for the Mavericks’ staff and thus Luca Doncic will get another very quality player by his side.
Wood was one of the best players in the Houston Rockets he is leaving, but there they continue the very long construction process that they began with the departure of James Harden. In return for the player they will receive a draft pick from the first round (pick number 26) of the next round (2022), with Boban Marianovic, Sterling Brown, Trey Burke and Marquis Chris also making their way to Houston. The trade will only be completed on the eve of the upcoming draft, following commitments of a future selection transfer between Dallas and the New York Knicks.
The Rockets’ goal was to make room in rotation and minutes for 19-year-old Turkish center Alpern Shangun, who broke through last season after being selected 16th in the 2021. Draft. Rowe or Chet Holmgren who are also meant to play in Wood’s positions. This trade, combined with the upcoming draft, will make Houston a team with the youngest top five in the NBA but with a particularly fascinating future potential.
