I agree that we will be at the most important crossroads in our sports career, but in our opinion, we should not be afraid of it, because the opportunity should be used – For days said motor sports driver Mārtiņš Sesks. On Monday, it was officially announced that Cesk and co-driver Renard Franci will make their debut this season in the stages of the World Rally Championship (WRC) in Poland (June 27-30) and Latvia (July 18-21).
Last season, Cesk won second place with France in the European Rally Championship (ERČ). In the first stage of the new season of ERČ in Hungary, the Latvian crew was still in the lead after the 11th stage, but hitting a piece of concrete ended with a broken wheel, which forced them to retire. The news of the start of the Latvian crew in the WRC two-stage competition with MSport Ford and WRC Promoter GMBH support. “This is the result of a year and a half’s work,” revealed Mārtiņš. “The talks started when Raimonds Strokš (organizer of the rally competition – aut.) announced at the Riga Circus about holding the WRC stage in Latvia. Then we also started talking with the WRC promoter and senior sports director Peter Tūl about the fact that the Latvian stage might also need a Latvian crew. After that, as a result of negotiations, this young talent program was created.” Mārtiņš is not informed whether there were also competitors for a place in the young talent program. “We had individual negotiations, so I don’t know if anyone else applied for this place. We had shown ourselves well in the Polish and Latvian stages of the European Championship last year. It was a good argument in our negotiations. It was also about starting in other stages, but in the end several due to the circumstances, we agreed on this option.”
