Chennai: Chennai Airport has appealed to the public not to burn old items on fire during Bogi festival.

Bogi festival is celebrated every year on the eve of Pongal festival. During this festival, old materials such as plastics, fabrics made of synthetic fibers, rubber products, old tires and tubes, paper, chemical products etc. are burnt.

Burning of such toxic materials causes air pollution and thick smoke and toxic gases cause suffocation, respiratory diseases, cough and lung damage, eye and nose irritation. Also, there are delays in arrivals and departures of flights.

In this case, Chennai Airport has appealed to the public not to burn old items on fire during Bogi festival.

In this regard, the Chennai Airport posted on its Twitter page, “Celebrate smog-free boogie! Because when thick fog is mixed with black smoke, the air pollution will drastically reduce visibility in and around the airport and affect flight operations.” It says so.
