Shafin Ahmed officially started singing at the age of nine. He did not stop after that. On July 25, Shafin Ahmed’s voice stopped forever. He will not touch the guitar again. He considered music as a sacred thing. Shafin Ahmed used to say, ‘I perform with the sweat of my head and feet. If you are on stage for two hours, your voice moves, or your hands move. Do not get into the habit of evading anything.’
Father legendary composer Kamal Dasgupta and mother Nazrul music artist Feroza Begum. Even then, this artist kept himself away from personal life.
In an interview, Shafin Ahmed said, ‘I kept my life hidden for many years. Only the world of music was known to man. After fifty years of musical career, it seemed like the best time to present his life at this stage. Not everyone’s life is the same. Many events are involved in my life. Much remains unsaid. Not all that I have said in the autobiography.’
Shafin Ahmed said in an interview that his singing journey started at the age of nine. Since then he has been seriously with music. He also sang songs composed by his father.
Shafin Ahmed used to sing in the hotel till 1982. They were contacted by BTV and told to do a thirty-minute instrumental show. Miles recorded six songs and sent them to BTV.
Shafin Ahmed said about this, ‘This is the first time people saw us, we were a bit daring, we were bold. Miles’ tune was then used as BTV’s signature music for two years from 6am to 6.30am. But no royalty has been paid for it.’
