Don’t leave anyone alone; Pope calls to visit the elderly suffering from isolation

VATICAN CITY: Pope Francis’ Twitter message calls for visits to the elderly who are going through lonely days. Reminding that no one should be left alone, the Pope added that visiting those who are alone due to old age is an act of mercy. In a tweet the other day, the Pope exhorted the faithful to be close to those who feel isolated.

‘I invite you to visit the elderly who are in homes and old people’s homes, experiencing severe loneliness. Let’s make sure no one feels lonely. Visiting the elderly who are alone is an act of mercy that can be done these days,’ said the Pope on Twitter.

At the beginning of July, the Pope requested that the congregation of the faithful pray especially for the elderly this month, in the context of the World Church’s Day for the Elderly (July 24). The request was made in the context of the Pope’s July papal mandate for the elderly.

The church is now preparing for the second annual celebration for the elderly. In January 2021, the Pope announced the beginning of the celebration of the Elderly Day in the Church. The Pope chose the fourth Sunday of July, which is close to the feast of St. Joachim-Anna, the grandparents of Jesus and the parents of the Virgin Mary, as the day of the elderly. July 26 is the feast day of Saint Joachim and Anna. Accordingly, this year’s Elderly Day has been arranged on July 24.
