Doosan “Balajovic’s fastball is powerful… top speed 156 km/h”
The professional baseball team Doosan Bears has decided to part ways with foreign pitcher Raul Alcantara. Alcantara’s vacancy will be filled by new foreign pitcher Jordan Balazovic (26).
Doosan said on the 4th, “We requested a waiver notice for Alcantara from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO)” and “We signed a contract with Balazovic for a total of 250,000 dollars (approximately 340 million won).”
Doosan decided to release Alcantara, who was expected to play the role of ace this season, after his continued slump. Alcantara’s replacement is right-handed pitcher Balazovic, who is 196 cm tall.
Balazovic, who was selected in the fifth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball (MLB) Minnesota Twins, made his major league debut in 2023. In his first year, he recorded 1 win and an ERA of 4.44 in 24⅓ innings in 18 games.
His minor league career record is 29 wins, 28 losses, 7 holds, 1 save, and an ERA of 4.40 in 138 games (83 starts). This season, he appeared in 24 games (1 start) with the Minnesota affiliate, Triple-A St. Paul Saints, pitching 35⅓ innings, recording 5 wins, 4 losses, 3 holds, and an ERA of 5.60.
A Doosan official said, “Balajovic is a pitcher with a powerful fastball that comes at a high point. His fastball speed has been recorded as high as 156 km/h and an average speed of 150 km/h.” He also said, “He can also throw changeups such as splitters, curves, and sliders into the strike zone, and he has excellent strikeout ability.”
Balazovic is expected to join the team after completing administrative procedures.
