However, he was not allowed to own a weapon. An 88-year-old man was arrested this Friday afternoon in Bergerac, Dordogne, after shooting a wood pigeon with a rifle near a lake, in the heart of a hunting-free zone, reports the daily Sud Ouest.

According to information from France Bleu Périgord, the octogenarian had “hid in the woods next to the beach” of the lake and “was shooting with his hunting rifle”. However, the park of Pombonne, which houses the lake of the same name, is a public place and prohibited to hunting, whatever the time of year. Fortunately, the shots did not cause any injuries.

Following his arrest, the man was taken into police custody, because the police realized that he had been banned from possessing a weapon since 2019, details Sud Ouest. He therefore saw his hunting rifle taken away by the police, illegally detained. The octogenarian would have admitted the facts, which will lead him to appear before the Bergerac court in February.
