Tricolor was defeated by LDU by 2-1 this Thursday (24th), in Quito, in the first leg of the quarterfinals of CONMEBOL Sudamericana, however, it remains firm to try to seek a place in the decisive return match which will be played at Morumbi.
After the match in Ecuador, coach Dorival Júnior held a press conference, analyzed the setback at the Casa Blanca Stadium and projected the next meeting between the teams.
“There is no defeat that makes you calm. We came here trying to get the best result possible and we found a good opponent. It’s a 180-minute game and we have the ability to do much better. We’re going to have to fight a lot”, said the coach, who completed.
“I have to prepare my team to go after this score, which will not be easy. We have confidence and a very qualified team and that, regardless of having had a very poor first half, we are confident that we can do the best from now on”, he evaluated.
The return duel takes place next Thursday (31), at 7 pm, at Morumbi. To advance, São Paulo needs to defeat the Ecuadorians by two goals difference. In case of triumph by a goal difference, the decision will be on penalties.
“It is natural that we will still have 90 minutes, inside Morumbi. The dynamics of the game will be different, but we will have to work hard so that we can think about reversing the result, since we will be facing a very safe team, very consistent and that presented a great game”, he concluded.
Before the decisive game, Dorival Júnior’s team travels to Belo Horizonte, where they visit América-MG this Sunday (27th), at 4 pm, at Arena Independência.
