Dortmund and Bochum far behind: who donates the most in NRW

by time news

Compared to NRW, the people in Dortmund and Bochum donate rather little. This was the result of the evaluation of the tax data from 2018

Dortmund/Bochum – Taxpayers in North Rhine-Westphalia donated a whopping 1.3 billion euros in 2018 – at least that was the result of an evaluation of the data from the North Rhine-Westphalia Information and Technology Tax Office as the State Statistical Office (IT.NRW). While NRW was quite generous, there are big differences in the per capita donations depending on the city.

Dortmund and Bochum far behind: who donates the most in NRW

Dortmund and Bochum, for example, haven’t exactly covered each other in glory, at least in comparison. EUR 45 per inhabitant was donated in the largest city in the Ruhr area: a total of EUR 26.26 million was collected. Of around 181,000 taxpayers, only around 51,000 made a donation. Lottery winner “Chico” recently attracted attention as a big donor from Dortmund.

It only looks a little better in Bochum: it was 50 euros per capita here. Of around 118,000 taxpayers, only around 35,000 people made donations or claimed them in their tax returns. A total of 18.32 million euros was achieved (more news from Dortmund on RUHR24).

Most generous city in NRW: Unna beats Dortmund and Bochum

Incidentally, the total average of all per capita donations in NRW is 70 euros. Dortmund and Bochum are both a good deal below. Other cities have dug deeper into their pockets for this. 396 North Rhine-Westphalian towns and communities were evaluated – in the end, the town of Unna ended up in first place.

An average of 409 euros was collected here per inhabitant. 6,433 people from a total of 20,576 taxpayers donate in the city from the Ruhr area. Around 24 million euros came together. The winners’ podium is rounded off by Burbach with 223 euros per person and a total of 3.32 million euros, and Espelkamp with 152 euros and a total of 3.76 million euros in donations (more news from Bochum on RUHR24).

Who donates the most in NRW: Figures from 2018 are the most recent

By the way: If you are wondering about the supposedly outdated figures from 2018 – the tax authorities first had to complete all the assessment work before they could release the anonymous data for analysis. Furthermore, donations to foundations and parties were not included.
