With Karim Adeyemi shining in the first half, scoring two goals that laid the foundation for his team’s victory, Dortmund defeated the resilient Heidenheim 4-2 in the opening match of the third round of the Bundesliga, temporarily rising to the top of the standings.
The team from Westphalia started the game with high intensity and managed to take the lead very early, thanks to the goals from Malen (12’) and Adeyemi (17’). Despite Heidenheim’s response with a stunning header from Pieringer in the 39th minute, Dortmund came back strongly, with Adeyemi scoring his second personal goal, restoring a two-goal lead before the end of the first half.
In the second half, Heidenheim did not give up, reducing the deficit again in the 74th minute with a penalty from Breuninger. Despite the intense pressure for an equalizer, the visitors could not change the course of the match. In the third minute of stoppage time, Emre Can’s successful penalty sealed the final score at 4-2, “sealing” the victory for Dortmund.
