Double Homicide Investigation in San Jose Home Sparks Concern in Community

SAN JOSE — The deaths of two people found inside a San Jose home Friday afternoon are being investigated as homicides, according to police.

The San Jose police department said officers responded to a welfare check at a home on the 1600 block of Parkmoor Avenue, which runs parallel to Interstate Highway 280 in the Buena Vista neighborhood of West San Jose.

That’s where officers found a woman and her 6-year-old grandson dead.

“I would say, around 12 or 12:30 (p.m.), I heard yelling like ‘He’s dead! He’s dead!” Jose Sanchez, a neighbor, told KPIX.

Sanchez says he has lived here for years and was shocked when he found out that a double homicide happened right near his home.

Officers surrounded the Vista apartment complex and set up a command center. KPIX helicopter captured footage of the scene which parallels Interstate 280.

Sanchez said he knew one of the victims well. The 6-year-old had a huge personality and made friends with many of his neighbors.

“That little boy was well known here. Everybody knew that little boy because he’s always running around playing with other kids, always being really loud,” Sanchez said.

The San Jose police department isn’t releasing a lot of details as to why this incident happened and whether a suspect is in custody.

Many of the neighbors are devastated to see a young life taken so soon.

“I feel bad. Like I said, I heard — it broke my heart man. I just spoke to him yesterday. It’s sad. He’s young. He had his whole life ahead of him,” Sanchez said.

San Jose police say they expect to release more information on the case early next week.

Police said these were homicides number 23 and 24 for 2023.
