The illusion unleashed among the rowing fans of Bajo Nalón by the recent and unexpected victory of the juvenile men’s team of the Remeros del Nalón club in the Colindres (Cantabria) boat regatta was confirmed last weekend with the achievement of the championship of Asturias of that category and, as an addition, with the victory in the same competition of the crew of the mixed children’s category. Two successes that underpin the good work of a historic club that is greening its laurels.
The expedition from Sotobarca moved to the estuary of the Eo estuary, the scene of the Asturias championship, with the hope of standing up to the all-powerful teams from western Asturias, where the Club de Mar de Castropol usually imposes its dominance. The Nalón Rowers arrived in Castropol with the crews of two boats, the male juvenile and the mixed child, forced to share a boat, which means that when preparing the regattas they have less time to warm up and adjust the boat . But the lack of means of those who train every week in the San Juan de la Arena estuary, as the club is proud of, “makes them excel to be able to face entities with more resources.”
In the men’s children’s regatta, the Nalón Rowers competed with the crew made up of Ramón as skipper, Pedro, Rubén, Lucas and Martín. After a very even start, the Nalón Rowers began to put meters in the way to seal a victory with 11 seconds difference against the Club de Mar de Castropol boat.
The crew of the mixed children’s boat was skippered by Daniela and the oars Estrella, Jaime, Leyre and Guillermo. They also brought Soto del Barco the title that accredits them in their category as champions of Asturias in the batel modality.
