BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that it is imperative to consider the financial needs of former players. Umpires are ungrateful captains. Ganguly said their welfare was also the responsibility of the BCCI.
At present, the monthly pension of Rs 15,000 has been increased to Rs 30,000. Former players and umpires who get a pension of Rs 22,500 will now get a pension of Rs 45,000. Those who received Rs 30,000 will get Rs 52,500, those who received Rs 37,500 will get Rs 60,000 and those who received Rs 50,000 will now get Rs 70,000, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.
I’m pleased to announce an increase in the monthly pension of former cricketers (men & women) and match officials. Around 900 personnel will avail of this benefit and close to 75% of personnel will be beneficiaries of a 100% raise.

Their well-being should be a top priority for both current and former players. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said the increase in pensions was in that sense. He added that umpires are the ones who enhance the prestige of Indian cricket with their unique service.
