The volume of doubtful credits of Spanish entities rose by 338.4 million in the month of April, reaching 42,553 million euros, according to provisional data published by the Bank of Spain. This is the first increase in absolute data since October 2021.

Thus, the volume of doubtful loans from Spanish credit institutions increased by 0.8% compared to March. Compared to April 2022, the data is 16.9% lower (8,663 million euros less).

While, the volume of credit granted by entities has been reduced by 2,860 million euros, up to 1.2 trillion. With respect to a year earlier, the volume was reduced by 21,777 million euros.

The figures include the methodological change in the classification of Financial Credit Institutions (EFC), which since January 2014 are no longer considered within the category of credit institutions. Without including the change, delinquency would stand at 3.64% in April, since the credit balance was 1.169 trillion euros in that month, excluding the EFC credit.

The data broken down by type of entity reflect that the doubtful ratio of the group of deposit institutions (banks, savings banks and cooperatives) closed April at 3.44%, above the 3.40% of the previous month but below the 4 .09% from a year earlier.

For its part, the default ratio of financial credit institutions rose to 6.56% in the fourth month of the year, higher than the 6.48% in March, but below the 7.12% of a year earlier.

According to data from the Bank of Spain, the provisions of all credit institutions rose to 30,746 million euros in April, with an increase of 0.76% compared to the previous month and a decrease of 13% compared to April 2022.
