Stocks in the United States Close in a Mixed Trend

On Thursday, stock indices in the United States traded in a mixed trend at the close of trading. The Dow Jones added 0.04% while the S&P 500 fell by 0.07%, and the NASDAQ climbed by 0.01%.

Gains in the technology and consumer discretionary sectors propelled the indexes higher, while rate decreases were recorded in the energy and real estate sectors, leading the indexes down.

Leading stocks in the index included Salesforce, which added 2.75% to its value, Nike, which added 2.07%, and Travelers Company, which added 0.93%. Conversely, Verizon Communications, Walgreens Boots Alliance, and Boeing were among the worst performers, all closing down by more than 2%.

The number of declining stocks exceeded the number of stocks that closed higher in trading on the New York Stock Exchange, with 1711 declining and 1153 gaining. On the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2340 stocks declined and 1092 gained, with 100 holding their value.

Gold futures for February delivery added 0.26% to settle at $2,033.05 an ounce. In commodity trading, crude oil futures for February delivery completed an increase of 1.77%, reaching a price of $72.63 per barrel, while the March contract for Brent oil futures registered an increase of 1.60%, closing at a price of $78.03 per barrel.

The EUR/USD pair maintained stability at a price of 1.10, while the USD/JPY pair completed a 0.29% decline and reached the level of 145.31.

Overall, the stock indices in the United States closed with a mix of gains and declines, with the Dow Jones edging slightly higher, while the S&P 500 and NASDAQ experienced slight declines.
