Download manager, links with phone numbers and more

Telegram has launched a new version for iOS and Android devices that introduces a number of innovations including a download manager, sharing the personal number, using professional video streaming software and more.

The main innovation of this version is a built-in download manager, which centralizes all the files sent to the user in one list, and displays the download status of each file in real time. You can also prioritize downloads, thus taking advantage of the maximum bandwidth for one file at the expense of other less urgent files. The Telegram mentions on this occasion that users of the app can send each other files of up to 2 GB in unlimited capacity.

Another innovation is the ability to send links that include the user’s phone number so that they can be contacted quickly via telegram. The link is created in the format t.me/+123456789, and will only work if the user chooses to share his personal phone number with friends.

Telegram also expands the app’s capabilities to operate as a video broadcasting station, with support for professional broadcast management software such as OBS and XSPlit Broadcaster. These allow broadcasting with the appearance and effects of a TV studio, such as on-screen subtitles and invested transitions.

Apart from that, this version also includes various design updates, such as a new look for the login screens with nicer and smoother animations, semi-transparent menus in the Android version of the app, and an updated sharing menu for iOS users with a more convenient view for selecting multiple photos to send.

The update is of course available for free download, although Telegram recently launched an advertising program on popular channels to fund app development costs.
