Kochi: Three people, including her husband and mother-in-law, have been arrested in the suicide of a Dalit woman in Kochi. Sumesh, his mother Ramani and his brother’s wife Manisha were arrested. All three were taken into custody from their house in Kunnamkulam on Tuesday evening. After questioning, he was arrested.
Sangeeta was found to have committed suicide in her bedroom last June 1. Sumesh and Sangeeta got married in 2020. Sangeeta’s family had alleged that her husband was constantly harassing her mentally and physically.
Sangeeta’s relatives filed a complaint with the police stating that caste abuse and dowry harassment by the in-laws were the reason for her daughter’s suicide. Based on this, the police arrested the husband and his family members. .
