Dozens of civilians killed in new clashes in Sudan

25 civilians were killed and 100 others were injured, during clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, in the past two days, in the western neighborhoods of the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, according to what the Sudanese human rights organization “Emergency Lawyers” announced,

Eyewitnesses told Agence France-Presse that “the clashes forced hundreds of displaced people to flee from Abu Shouk camp to the nearby city of El Fasher after the battles reached the heart of the camp.”

North Darfur state has been witnessing clashes on two fronts for days, the first between the Rapid Support Forces and the armed movements west of El Fasher and in the city of Melit, which is located 100 kilometers north of it, and the second between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army in El Fasher itself.

Within one year, the war in Sudan led to thousands of deaths, including up to 15,000 people in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state. The war also pushed the country, with a population of 48 million, to the brink of famine, destroyed the infrastructure, and displaced more than 8.5 million people. Millions of people, according to the United Nations.
