Navigation data showed an increase in the number of cancelled flights at Beirut International Airport in the Lebanese capital and Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv in central Israel, against the backdrop of escalating tension in the region.

Tensions in the region increased following the assassination of the head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas” Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, and the killing of the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Fouad Shukr, in an Israeli raid that targeted the southern suburb of Beirut.

Amid fears of a response from Iran and Hezbollah, navigation data indicated that more than 110 international flights were cancelled at Beirut airport since last Sunday, and 210 other flights were delayed in the same period.

The United States and Switzerland urged their citizens on Wednesday not to travel to Lebanon, and Air France and Transavia France announced an extension of the suspension of their flights to Beirut until next Saturday due to the security situation.

Lufthansa announced a few days ago that it would suspend flights to Beirut until August 5. Likewise, Emirates Airlines announced that it would not allow customers passing through Dubai and heading to Beirut to travel on August 1 and 2.
