The bodies of 29 members of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party have been found in various cities of the country.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, this was reported by the Dhaka Tribune newspaper.
Ten Awami League supporters were killed in attacks in Satkhira on Tuesday following the news of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as prime minister and her departure from the country. Houses and businesses belonging to Awami League leaders and activists were vandalised and looted.
In the city of Cumilla, 11 of the former prime minister’s party comrades were killed in an attack by a crowd of protesters. Another six people died when assailants set fire to the three-storey house of a former Awami League district councillor.
Among the dead are also family members of party activists, including children.
On Monday, amid unrest, Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, protesters stormed her residence, and mass arson and looting began in Bangladesh. The republic’s army commander, Waqer-uz-Zaman, announced the formation of an interim government, calling on citizens to maintain order.
It should be noted that at least 10,000 people have been arrested since the start of the unrest in Bangladesh. As reported by the AFP agency, citing police and medical data, the death toll during the protests since July has exceeded 350, including police officers.
