DPS proposes its former MEP Iskra Mihailova as the new Bulgarian European Commissioner.

The party states that Mihailova is “an authority with a proven Euro-Atlantic profile, with many years of experience both in the European Parliament and in the executive and legislative power in Bulgaria.”

The nomination was announced by the official press center of the DPS, which publishes information about the chairman Delyan Peevski and the parliamentary group of the movement.

“In times of emerging populism, anxiety and political instability in Europe and the world, it is necessary for Bulgaria to be represented by politicians with the categorical and clear position of Euro-Atlanticists with categorical and Euro-Atlantic values, which qualities Iskra Mihailova has and will defend in the European Commission”, they write since DPS.

Mihailova is the third officially nominated for the post. From GERB-SDS, the deputy and former Minister of Justice and Foreign Affairs, Ekaterina Zaharieva, and from “There is such a people” – the former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Velislava Petrova.

Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev sent invitations to the parties, inviting them to nominate candidates for the new European Commissioner. He gives them two days. The Council of Ministers will then discuss the names and choose one to send to Brussels by Friday, the deadline.
