Chief advisor. Muhammad Yunus on Sunday (September 15) presented an artbook on graffiti in Bangladesh after meeting with the visiting US delegation at the State Guest House Jamuna.

The book contains some of the best artworks painted by students and youth during the July-August student-led revolution on the walls of Dhaka and other cities and towns.

The Chief Adviser highlighted the historical significance of the mural, which depicts the emotions, hopes and aspirations of the students and youth who participated in the anti-fascist Sheikh Hasina’s anti-regime movement by resisting the barbaric forces.

Yunus said, ‘I request you to look at the wall of Dhaka. That graffiti is still there. They were not only painted after the revolution. During protests in July, students ignored government forces and painted murals.’

He said, ‘After the young painters turned the walls of Dhaka into powerful canvases, Dhaka became the wall painting capital of the world. They wrote slogans and poems to convey powerful messages. These messages reflect the spirit of revolution and the desire for a discrimination-free Bangladesh.

The Head Counselor recalled how students used their artwork to convey messages with the help of people from all walks of life.

He told the US representatives, ‘They (students) did not have money to buy paints and brushes. People have come forward in their support.’

US Treasury Department Assistant Secretary Brent Neyman led the US delegation at the meeting. In addition, US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu, Assistant US Trade Representative Brendan Lynch, Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur and US Treasury Department Director Jared Mason were present.
