Tijuana, BC- The council of the Tijuana Tourism and Convention Committee (Cotuco) elected the Dr. A.S. Karim Chalita Rodriguez to direct the organization during the period 2023-2024, during which time it will have the mission of promoting the tourism sector and its entire value chain.

The vote took place at the Cotuco offices, where the board of directors voted in favor of Dr. Karim Chalita Rodríguez, who held the position of secretary of the organization.

The person in charge of taking the oath to the board of directors was Lic. Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, Secretary of Tourism of Baja California, same which remained conformed by: Dr. Karim Chalita Rodriguez, vice president; John Joseph Plascence; Secretary Gilberto Gamiño and as treasurer repeats Fernando Fermin Garcia.

It is important to be more united and work with a single vision to continue positioning Tijuana as a destination that has it all, as well as continue strengthening its identity as a border destination,” said the new leader.

After thanking him for the support received to represent the organization, he recognized the work of his predecessor, Mr. Arturo Gutiérrez Sánchez, and raised the need to work in coordination with the value chain to the development of new tourism products, in order to generate greater attraction of national and international tourism.

Chalita Rodríguez explained that her main lines of work will focus on promoting the training of service providers, with in order to offer quality to the visitor both in attention and experiences.

Likewise, he said, special emphasis will be given to Meetings Tourism, as it is one of the main generators of economic benefits, in addition to promoting Social and Inclusive Tourism, as well as Health and Wellness Tourism, since Tijuana is an international destination for visitors who come for medical reasons.

Meanwhile, he stated that specific monitoring will be given to sports, religious tourism, cultural tourism and other tourism segments that are also important in Tijuana.
He mentioned that it will strengthen the relationship with the United States, for this it will be essential to work hand in hand with the tourist authorities, chambers and consulates of Mexico in the American Union as well as organizations such as COFEM.

We will also work hand in hand with the value chain, the State Secretary of Tourism, and authorities to position our destination.

Dr. Karim Chalita Rodríguez is a Surgeon from the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí, with a specialty in Gynecology and Obstetrics from the General Hospital of Mexico.

It is also Degree in Law from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Tijuana, where he graduated with academic excellence, having a Master’s Degree in Administration from the Escuela del Pacífico.

For 14 years, Dr. Chalita Rodríguez served as advisor to Cotuco, an organization that he will proudly represent for the benefit of the tourism sector.
