For many years she was the only woman on the panel of specialists, and there she demonstrated her vast culture, deciphering the difficult questions of the program, which demanded extensive general knowledge and memory.

The intellectual was born in Holguín in 1936 and at the end of 1959 she graduated with a degree in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Havana, according to Cuban portals such as Ecured.

His professional life began at the Enrique José Varona Institute of the University of Pedagogical Sciences, when he was barely 20 years old, and in 1969 he founded Escriba y Lea, along with other great Cuban historians and academics.

During that same interview, he commented a humorous anecdote about the beginnings of the program: “Space has always been a source of knowledge for the people. There was something funny, at first some people thought we knew the answers… How were we, teachers, going to do that? Of course, it happened only at the beginning. Soon, with the conception of the program, they understood the reality: that it was an exercise in knowledge and the result of a deep and permanent study.”

For her work in teaching, she was recognized with the National Pedagogy Award in 2007 and the status of Teacher of Generations, among other titles conferred by more than one Cuban institution.

A few years ago, in 2019, news of his alleged death spread on social networks, information denied by the Ministry of Higher Education.

In April of this year, for her birthday, hundreds of people honored her and remembered the experiences and lessons that Dr. Ortiz, as she was also known in Cuba, had left them.
