Nobel Laureate to Take Charge as Interim Government Head
Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is set to take responsibility as the head of the interim government. The Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna is being prepared for his arrival. Furniture and chairs are being rearranged in the building immediately following the official announcement of Yunus’s appointment.
Cleaning workers were busy tidying up the building on Thursday (August 8). “These preparations are being made for the head of the country’s government,” said a cleaner. “We cut the grass in the field, we clean the trees. He will be here, that’s how the preparations are going.”
Director of the Government Housing Department, Shahidul Islam Bhuya, stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has allocated the Jamuna state guest house for the new head of government. Work on the preparations began on Tuesday and is being led by the Chief Engineer of PWD.
Previously, several notable figures have stayed at the Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna during their tenure, including Justice Habibur Rahman (Chief Advisor to the Caretaker Government in 1996), Latifur Rahman (Chief Advisor to the Caretaker Government in 2001), and Fakhruddin Ahmed (Chief Advisor of the army-controlled caretaker government in 2008).
