The chief advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh asked for a quick solution to the Rohingya crisis. Muhammad Yunus.
He made this claim in a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi in New York on Thursday (September 26).
At this time, Filippo Grandi called for a new approach to deal with the Rohingya crisis, saying that the international community should do more to end the plight of more than 1 million Rohingyas in refugee camps in Bangladesh.
He said that the worldwide interest in the Rohingya crisis has increased since Professor Yunus took charge as the new leader of Bangladesh.
Filippo Grandi expressed hope that more funding will be given to humanitarian aid to the Rohingya.
The World Bank’s $700 million aid is a good starting point, he said, noting that the United Nations is ready to provide more support for Rohingya children’s education.
Muhammad Yunus called for finding a quick solution to the Rohingya crisis and doing more for the future of the millions of Rohingya children growing up in refugee camps in Bangladesh.
We have to solve this before it’s too late, he said. We have to find a solution.
The Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Gilbert Hungbo met with the Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at a hotel on Thursday.
Gilbert Hungbo offered assistance to the United Nations Labor Organization in the interim government’s steps to implement the ILO Convention in Bangladesh, saying, “We are ready to help you.” If ever needed, the ILO will respond to his call.
At that time, the chief adviser said that labor reform is the top priority of his government. Because the interim government sees labor reforms as key to making Bangladesh a world-class manufacturing hub.
Resolving the labor problem will provide more foreign exchange opportunities for Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus said, “We are very serious about this.”
