Organized in partnership with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Regional Directorate of the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), this initiative aims to strengthen the capacities of officials in detention centers to apply national and international standards in matters of of human rights.
This workshop, initiated under the theme “The role of staff responsible for law enforcement in prisons and the effectiveness of the law”, also aims to raise awareness among prison staff of best practices towards the population. prison, within the framework of compliance with the provisions of Moroccan criminal law and the international convention against torture and its optional protocol.
Speaking on this occasion, the president of the CRDH of Drâa-Tafilalet, Fatima Aarach, underlined that the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and the DGAPR aim to combine their efforts to meet the challenges posed in terms of human rights. of man in prison, by implementing the recommendations arising from the Council’s regular visits to all prison establishments.
“The objective of this workshop is to provide law enforcement personnel in prisons with the opportunity to acquire knowledge and practices relating to the minimum rules for the treatment of prisoners, and to inquire mechanisms adopted under international standards and Moroccan national law,” she said.
She noted that this meeting is part of the implementation of the missions and prerogatives of the CNDH and its regional commissions, particularly in terms of protection and promotion of the rights of detainees, adding that it also intervenes in application recommendations issued by the CNDH in its 2012 thematic report entitled “the prison crisis, a shared responsibility, 100 recommendations for the protection of prisoners’ rights”.
This regional workshop, which brought together officials from all detention centers in the Drâa-Tafilalet region, was supervised by members of the CRDH as well as representatives of the prosecution and the Regional Directorate of the General Delegation to the Prison Administration and reintegration.
