Draft Constitution: President Goïta urges the political class, civil society and the defense and security forces to take ownership of the document

After the traditional authorities and legitimacy, the President of the Transition, Colonel Assimi Goïta, met in the afternoon at the Koulouba Palace with the political class, civil society and the Defense and Security Forces to present the project of Constitution which he validated.

It was in the presence of Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maïga, members of the government and officials of the Institutions of the Republic.

From the outset, Colonel Assimi Goïta will say that the ceremony is part of the dynamics of the political and institutional reforms undertaken by the authorities of the Transition since the end of the National Refoundation Meetings (ANR) in 2021. And to add that the process culminated in the development of this draft Constitution.

The Head of State thus urged the leaders of the political parties, the leaders of civil society organizations as well as the representatives of the Defense and Security Forces to take ownership of the document and to make a good explanation of it to population.

According to the President of the Transition, the draft Constitution reflects the experience of social and political life of our people who have known a rich historical trajectory from the time of the empires to that of contemporary Mali. “It is a people hardened by hardships and who now intend to assume their destiny and build their future”, he appreciated.

In accordance with their habit of responding to calls from the authorities at the most critical moments in our history, the Head of State reminded the living forces of the need to work together for the superior interests of our people. This, before paying them a strong tribute for their patriotic commitment and especially for their role played in the Transition process and in the development of the draft Constitution.

In addition, the President of the Transition hailed the legendary resilience of the Malian people who demonstrated their desire to regain their true sovereignty. To this end, Colonel Assimi Goïta maintained that the momentum of mobilization must never run out of steam. “now it is up to you to appropriate this document which is precisely yours. It is especially expected to make a wide dissemination and a good explanation to the population. Because, the Malians of all the Regions of our country and the Diaspora need to be informed about the innovations and the advances of the said draft Constitution”, said the Head of State to the address of the guests.

The President of the Transition urged the living forces of the nation to remain mobilized for Mali Kura whose draft Constitution is rightly one of the stones of the refoundation. “We must work together so that the people of Mali, in full knowledge of the facts, take ownership of the draft Constitution and adopt it by a large majority,” said Colonel Goïta. Previously, the coordinator of the commission for the finalization of the draft Constitution, Pr Fousseiny Samake, had given a broad explanation to the assistance on the document.
